IT Skeptic

Started reading Rob England’s books last night (http://www.itskeptic.org/).  I really like the skeptical perspective on the industry.  Unfortunately as the industry is maturing its going through the same pitfalls as other industries (i.e., more marketing and hype than actual facts).  It was rather interesting that he called out Gartner and other Analyst firms similar to how several financial industry skeptics have called out audit and analyst firms, pointing out their failure to call out poor investment structures, management practices and participants over the years till the crash occurred and those now yelling they had point such out (whether they did or not) to gain credibility;  just look at the book shelves to see all the I predicted the 2008 financial crisis books

What I like about Rob’s work is the focus on numbers and the actual calculations:  Tidal Wave calculations in The IT Skeptic Looks at CMDB  and quoted Gartner productivity study “up to 48%”  –your mileage may vary  :-)
